Alkyne Reactions and Properties
Właściwości alkinów include both physical and chemical characteristics. Alkynes undergo various reactions:
- Combustion
- Addition reactions (H2, Cl2, HCl, etc.)
- Decolorization of bromine water
Example: Addition of chlorine to ethyne:
HC≡CH + Cl2 → CHCl=CHCl
Reakcja Kuczerowa (Kucherov reaction) is a significant reaction involving water addition to alkynes:
Definition: The Kucherov reaction is the addition of water to alkynes, catalyzed by mercury(II) salts.
For alkynes with two carbons, this produces an aldehyde. For alkynes with more than two carbons, it yields a ketone.
Example:
HC≡CH + H2O → CH3CHO (acetaldehyde)
CH3-C≡CH + H2O → CH3COCH3 (acetone)
Alkynes also undergo polymerization and, in the case of acetylene, trimerization to form benzene.
